3 1/3 x 2 1/2 safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons at the America's Cup Preliminary Trials on July 13, 1958. Image of VIM, undersail, port bow view, mainsail close-hauled, spinnaker set. VIM was a 70' 12 meter sloop, designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built by Henry B. Nevins, Inc. of City Island, NY in 1939. She was commissioned by Harold Vanderbilt as a 12 meter and launched May, 1939. Bought by Rod Stephens and Briggs Cunningham who won 19 of 27 races during the 1939 season. VIM was mothballed from 1940 until 1950. Her new owner was John Matthews in 1951. Racedin the America's Cup trials in 1958 and her skipper was Emil Mosbacher and her Dacron sails were made by Ted Hood. Stamped negative sleeve info.: "160253F / CUP TRIALS / [Box]5658".
