[North River, NYC]/ December 31, 1901."; handwritten in negative lower left "957"; bow view of wooden lighter CLIFFORD in floating drydock; from 1902 Annual Report of Supervising Inspector-General of US Steamboat Inspection Service, "December 29.—About 9.80 a. m. steamer Newburgh collided off Ninety-fifth street. North River, with steam lighter Clifford, lying at anchor, doing such damage that the Clifford immediately sunk. The Clifford was raised and put on dry dock and repaired. Damage estimated, $10,000. No lives lost. There was a dense fog at the time, and the Clifford had just anchored as the fog was too thick to proceed."
