Colored Postcard. From the collection of S. Clyde King. Image on front is a colored image of a photograph taken in 1903 by H.S. Hutchinson & Co. (see 1947.1596.8). Image shows men cutting into a sperm whale on the whaling bark CALIFORNIA. Red text at top on front “2055 - Sperm Whaling. "Hoisting and/ Cutting as the Whale rolls over/ and over", New Bedford, Mass.”. Back of card is unused with a divided back. Text in bottom left corner of back reads “CUTTING IN A SPERM WHALE/ Hoisting and Cutting as the Whale rolls over and over.”
