AMERICAN PRESIDENT Steamship Line (formerly the DOLLAR Line) dinner menu for maiden voyage of SS PRESIDENT CLEVELAND en route to Honolulu. Ship captained under Henry Nelson, USNR Ret. Commodore. Chief steward S.A. Agnew; Chef de Cuisine Herman Schurtz. Menu dated Sunday December 28, 1947. Categories include appetizers, soup, fish, eggs, entrees, roast, vegetables, potatoes, cold buffet, salads, dressing, desserts, cheese, and beverages. Menu cover decorated with 7 Japanese koinobori, or carp streamers, in the forefront, nine individuals harvesting rice in a rice paddy in the midground, and traditional Asian thatched houses in the background. Back margin decorated with three large indigenous Japanese vessels and a snowcapped mountain (possibly Mount Fuji) in the background. Eagle emblem in bottom left corner reads "American President Lines". Tag on plastic envelope is marked "$40". Overall: 11 x 8 3/4 in (folded lengthwise).
