Label of the LUSITANIA disaster

A label showing the LUSITANIA disaster. Although it looks like a stamp, it does not include postage. This is what is known in stamp collecting circles as a Cinderella stamp. It is also a piece of British World War I propaganda, one of a set of four labels showing alleged German wartime atrocities. They were printed by Winox, Ltd. of Surrey, England and the art has been attributed to Dutch artist Louis Raemaekers. This one shows the LUSITANIA sinking, with lifeboats and survivors in the water, and classical-style women on either side mourning. There are also two children lying at the bottom, who may represent the 94 children (including 31 infants) who died on the ship. The text says "Remember LUSITANIA" "Torpedoed 7th May 1915."
