Cunard sailing schedule issued April 16, 1909, with a four-funnel ship (the LUSITANIA or the MAURETANIA) on the cover. This document also includes a third class ticket price list, not just from British and Irish ports but from ports all over the world, including Scandinavian Points, Finnish Points, Continental Points, Austria-Hungary, South Africa, South America, Australia, and "Oriental Points" such as Beyrouth (Beirut, Lebanon) and Alexandria, Egypt. These rates would have applied to would-be emigrants traveling from all over Europe to the United States or Canada, but also to people emigrating to South Africa or Australia, and to travelers coming to Europe from elsewhere. The last page is a sailing schedule for Boston, New York and the Mediterranean between April and November 1909. There is also a section titled "General Information for Third Class Passengers" that provides insight on the immigrant experience at this time, a significant improvement on 19th century steerage, promising for example that unlimited "best provisions, well cooked" would be provided, along with table service. Also promised are "medical attendance by experienced surgeons" and "special attention" to women, children, and the sick.
