Page from the album of Dr. Blackmarr, a passenger on the CARPATHIA who assisted in the rescue of TITANIC passengers and documented the events. The photo, taken by Dr. Blackmarr from the CARPATHIA, shows several icebergs on the horizen and also, when enlarged, a sense of the ice sheet that he describes. On the photo, he has written "Solid ice 125 miles long. This picture & others taken at intervals of one hour apart while leaving scene of the wreck-- gives but poor idea of the magic beauty." He estimated in his lecture notes (Item #2020.39.7387) that the ice sheet was 90-95 feet high.
