Booklet titled "Continuous Certificate of Discharge" for George A. Moore, who was a crew member on the TITANIC. This booklet was issued by the British Board of Trade that governed merchant marine ships and seamen and was used to record all of a seaman's voyage. The first page, however, notes that this is a "Renewal book/ Original lost through shipwreck." It provides Moore's personal information and a physical description. The next few pages record his working voyages in 1909-1911, including a number of trips to Bombay on the S.S. PLASSY, all of which have the note "extracted from agreements," which means the information is being reconstructed from elsewhere after the 1912 loss of his booklet. Voyage no. 11 is the TITANIC voyage, from April 10 to April 15, 1912, with the destination "intended New York." The book notes the place of discharge was "at sea"-- the crew members of the TITANIC lost their jobs and their salaries when the ship went down. Moore did not sail again during the spring or summer of 1912-- for one thing, he was busy testifying at inquiries about the disaster, and making his way back to England. But in September 1912, he was back on the PLASSY for a "trooping" voyage to Bombay-- it was a passenger ship but was regularly used for transporting garrison troops to and from India. There is a gap in 1914-18 while Moore was on military service in WWI, followed by several voyages on the OLYMPIC which was taking American troops back to the U.S. The booklet records additional voyages until 1922, when it was full and he was issued a new booklet (item #2020.39.7407). The back page of the booklet has his home address in Southampton.
