A first class passenger list from the September 30, 1927 voyage of the CARONIA from New York to England. The cover has a painting of a ship at sea (not the CARONIA, which had two funnels) by Fred J. Hoertz. The captain on this voyage was W.H. Hossack. A large number of the passengers were in the mining industry and were returning from the Empire and Mining Congress held in Winnipeg in August 1927. These included a number of delegates from England-- Mr. S. Bell, the two Currer-Briggs, Mr. and Mrs. Knowles, Mr. Robert C. Laird, Professor and Mrs. Bannister, and the Woolmers. Other delegates represented interests in South Africa-- Mr. and Mrs. Clarence, Mr. E.O. Leake, , Mr. & Mrs. Bailey Southwell, Mr. & Mrs. J.C. Phillips, Milverton Ford, Mr. & Mrs. Arthur A. English, and Mr. B.I. Campbell. Mr. & Mrs. B. Starks-Field came from Burma. Most of these delegates to the Congress had gone on a sponsored trip to western Canada after the Congress, so they were just now returning. Ahead of the passenger list are several pages with detailed passenger information, and there is a schedule of sailings at the end as well as information about wireless telegraph service. Also of note, on the errata page, is a list of how many passengers there were in each class-- a total of just 355 passengers with 410 crew members, with only 90 in tourist class and third class nearly empty.
