Vest with patches owned by George D. Broderson, likely worn between 1964 and 1991. The exterior of the vest is tan suede with dark blue trim, and the interior is the same blue as the trim, quilted in texture. The tag has been covered by 9 cream-colored fabric labels with ‘BRODERSON’ printed in black ink. The labels have been sewed in two columns with four in each column and one running from bottom to top in between the two columns. The vest has five gold-colored plastic buttons. There are two pockets towards the bottom of the vest, with a patch sewed onto each pocket. There are 18 patches total, 8 on the front and 10 on the back. On the left breast of the vest, there is a blue and white Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution patch. Above the patch, ‘BRODY’ is embroidered with black and red thread. Going left to right in column major order, after the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution patch, there is a brown, cream, and red British Royal Air Force patch; a blue and yellow circular patch labeled ‘A.M.A.R. 78’; a blue, red, and gold patch labeled ‘Bahamas’; an orange patch labeled ‘MAZATLAN’; a black Royal Air Force insignia; a yellow and blue Project F.A.M.O.U.S patch, and a light blue patch labeled ‘NASSAU / BAHAMAS’. On the back, in column major order from left to right, there is a blue and white National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration patch; a colorful Galapagos Rift patch, a patch labeled ‘PANAMA’, a muted blue patch labeled ‘DEEP OCEAN ENGINEERING’; another Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution patch; a Project RISE patch; a patch labeled ‘MEXICO’; a black and white patch labeled ‘NATIONAL MUSEUM / NATURAL HISTORY’; a Cayman Trough patch; and a patch labeled ‘PANAMA’.
