Sextant box from sextant used by Captain Alva R. Chapman of Mason's Island, Mystic, CT; captain of the ANNIE L. WILCOX for 27 years. Wooden box with iron hook locks on curved side and left flat side; key hole on left side with hook. Interior built to secure sextant in place with wooden frame; place for scope attachments on right. Two manufactuer labels inside; on lid, label for Durren & Costigan, NY; on bottom, label for D. Eggert's Sons, NY. Overall fair to poor condition; label for D. Eggert's Sons badly stained and missing upper right and lower left corners, difficult to read, interior dirty; box missing lower right corner of the lid, back hinge is broken, exterior speckled with white dots. Overall: 5 x 10 x 12 in.
