Full model of the HMS SUSSEX (1693) made by Dr. Gilbert McArdle, to 1:48 scale; process documented and published in book titled "Building a Navy Board Model of the HMS Sussex 1693" by McArdle. Model made from scratch using the jig method popularized by Robert Bruckshaw. Interior of the keel and hull visible through frame (typical of board model construction per McArdle). Mast platforms created for the four, main, and mizzenmasts and secured to the deck; no mast poles, rigging, or sails. Model intricately decorated on all sides, particularly at the stern; model is fully painted using yellow, red, black, and gold paint. Attached to gold-painted decorative cradle; secured in wood and plexiglass vitrine. See book that accompanies the model for more information about construction. Overall excellent condition. Overall: 21 3/4 x 58 1/4 x 20 in.
