An advertisement for the RMS QUEEN ELIZABETH, with a painting of the ship and extensive details about its size and navigational and technical features. It states that "The envelope containing this memento was posted in England and transported across the Atlantic by the QUEEN ELIZABETH on her MAIDEN VOYAGE as a passenger liner from Southampton to New York." The ship departed Southampton for its maiden voyage as a passenger ship on October 16, 1946. As the ad suggests, QUEEN ELIZABETH was already famous on both sides of the Atlantic for its heroic wartime service, and it was the first passenger liner to arrive in New York since the war, so it met with an enthusiastic and noisy welcome in New York harbor.
