Intricately carved wooden cane featuring important military figures from the Spanish American War (April-December 1898); similar canes dated after 1900. Cane features three-dimensional etched carvings of Admiral Dewey, Admiral Sampson, Admiral Schley, Richard P. Hobson, and Captain Evans. Design details from top to bottom: banner of stars with the Great Seal of the United States, ribbon curving around the cane reads 'OUR HEROES'; bust of 'ADM. GEO. DEWEY'; bust of 'ADM. W.T. SAMPSON'; bust of 'ADM. W.S. SCHLEY'; bust of 'R.P. HOBSON'; bust of 'CAPT. EVANS'; Spanish American War battleships engraved behind each bust, bottom of busts decorated with crosshatch and vine design. Cane handle inlaid with circular piece of bone, brass crest nailed on top and bottom. Ferrule reinforced with dark metal, possibly brass. Overall excellent condition.
