An invitation addressed to Mr. E.C. Carter for a buffet luncheon aboard the QUEEN ELIZABETH on October 23, 1946, in celebration of its maiden voyage. On heavy cardstock. The back includes a stamp saying "F.A. No. 903."Although it had already traveled some half a million miles as a WWII troopship, the QUEEN ELIZABETH's maiden voyage as a passenger liner began on October 16, 1946, when it left Southampton. Already famous for its wartime service, it met with an enthusiastic and noisy welcome in New York harbor on October 21. In addition to this private luncheon by invitation, the ship was also opened to public visits in the following days, and some ten thousand came to see it, including GIs who brought their families to see the ship they had sailed on in wartime.
