Carved walrus tusk with colored engraved artwork made by Chukchi artists of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug region of Russia; circa 1975; work is not signed by resembles carving work of G. Tatro (1939) and engraving work of L. Teyutina (1945), both featured in booklet "The Art of Ivory Carvers from Chukotka," see correspondence file for booklet. Tusk cut to create a 1 3/8 x 12 1/2 x 2 3/8 in. rectangular base, three feet added to underside to support carving; long sides of tusk engraved with scenes of Chukchi men on sleds being pulled by reindeer. Carved figures adorn the top of the tusk; figures compliment engraved work and feature a Chukchi man on a sled, two reindeer, and three wolves in attack. Overall: 4 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 2 3/8 in.
