English transferware jug or pitcher, commemorating British seaman "Jack Crawford/ THE HERO OF/ Camperdown/ OCTR. 11TH, 1797". Crawford is pictured in rigging holding ensign. On opposite side is verse within rope border: "THERE'S ONE WHOSE FEARLESS COURAGE,/ YET HAS NEVER FAILED IN FIGHT,/ WHO GUARDS WITH ZEAL OUR COUNTRY'S WEAL,/ OUR FREEDOM AND OUR RIGHT,/ HE'S BRITAINS BOST, AND CLAIMS A TOST,/ IN PEACE MY BOYS OR WAR,/ HERE'S TO THE BRAVE UPON THE YAVE (sic),/ THE GALLANT ENGLISH TAR". Battle of Camperdown in North Sea against Dutch fleet alligned with Napoleon.
