8-day chronometer, gimballed, in 3 part wood case with brass fittings. Dial engraved "ENGLISH DAYS CHRONOMETER/ BY/ Jos.h Johnson, Liverpool." 24-hour dial with Roman numerals for hrs (2 x 12), Arabic numerals for minutes (2 x 60). 2 small circular dials with hands within big dial for seconds, days, or how tightly instrument is wound. Key. Metal plaque screwed to 2nd part of box reading: "CORK AS SHOWN BEFORE SHIPPING/ CORK ACTUAL SIZE/ SEE SHIP'S/ CHRONOMETER/ RECORD BOOK (FORM N.B.S. 702)/ "TRANSPORTATION" PARAGRAPH 2 (A)". Joseph Johnson worked 1796-1830. Made in 1820
