Portable equatorial sundial, brass, with inset compass below irregular octagonal rim. Swirling motif on rim. Altitude arm hinged on left side for latitude calculation, marked from 20 to 80 in Arabic numerals. Hinged at top, a bearing circle with sight vane, Roman numerals from I to IX at right, from III to XII at left, for determining time at sea. Latitudes of foreign cities on reverse of recessed circle of compass: "E-- Por/ Lisbon 39 Rom/ 42 Vened 45 Wien/ Augsri 4x Nurnb/ Regenspri 49 Prag/ 30 Leipz 51 Riga/ 56 Moscou 57/ LTM". Rim 3/8" wide, 2" diameter; bearing circle 1-3/4" diameter.
