Dry card compass, sliding lid missing, made by Frye & Shaw, New York; made between 1837-1845. Dry card compass mounted on gimbal in sqaure wooden box; white paint on interior of compass flaking in places. Dry card printed with compass rose with North and South directions adorned with metal button; 'FRYE & SHAW NEW YORK' printed around the central pin. Overall fair condition; lid missing, bronze compass exterior has tarnished or oxidized, metal gimbal attaching compass to box tarnished, paint inside compass flaking. Overall: 4 1/8 x 6 x 6 in.
