Ebony frame octant. Ivory nameplate marked, "Spencer, Browning & Co. London". Ebony limb; ivory scale marked, "SBR", graduated -20 deg. to 107 deg., by 1 deg. subdivided to 20'. Reinforced brass index arm. Ivory vernier. Adjustable index mirror with three fixed shades. Horizon glass w/thumb screw and lever adjustment. Sight vane double peep w/pivoted cover. Plate on the back of frame missing; ivory topped pencil in brace. English, ca. 1848.
