Octant, mahogany frame, ivory nameplate, unmarked, loose; limb ebony, scale inlaid ivory, graduated -3 deg. to 98 deg. by 1 deg. subdivided to 20'. Flat brass index arm, ivory vernier. Adjustable index mirror with 3 moveable shades. Sight vane broken off. Back sight with single peep. Back horizon with lever adjustment. Turned ivory pencil finial in brace (pencil missing). Inlaid note plate on back missing. One brass leg, 2 brass legs missing. By unknown English maker, ca 1780-1790. Scale stamped ‘I(foul anchor)R’, indicating it was divided on a dividing engine of Jesse Ramsden.
