Ebony and brass octant (in an oak step-case 1968.156.2), c. 1810. Quadrant has an ivory inlaid scale, marked in script stamped in the scale: "SBR," and maker's plate marked: Spencer, Browning & Co., London. Initials carved in one leg: J W C. Ivory plate on reverse missing, as is pencil. Label in case reads: "DILLON & TUTTLE, / Formerly Kline & Co. / ... 74 Wall Street, New York".
