PHIPPS JR" (on the lid of the case); ebony frame, reinforced brass index arm, inlaid ivory scale graduated -4 degrees to +108 degrees by degrees subdivided to 20'; ivory vernier; adjustable index mirror with 3 shades, horizon glass, sight vane with double peep with pivoted cover; inlaid ivory nameplate engraved "SPENCER & Co. LONDON"; ivory pencil finial stuck in pencil hole; 3 brass legs. Trade label for F.W. Lincoln Jr. & Co, 120 Commercial Street, Boston.
