Boxed, brass trimmed, ebony octant made by Spencer Barrett & Co., London. The box is stained dark red and is unusual. The bottom is made of diagonal strips of wood. The top is made of strips of wood set in a generally triangular pattern, beginning with one small triangle at the center of the short side.
