Quintant, bell-pattern bronze frame, limb brass, 3 legs, limb engraved "Heath & Co. Ld. Crayford London, S.E." and "4858", silver scale graduated -5 deg. to +150 deg. by 1 deg., subdivided by 10' to 130? deg. Measuring to 136°. Reinforced bronze index arm w/magnifier on swinging & sliding arm. Silver vernier, tangent screw. Adjustable index mirror w/4 fixed shades. Horizon glass in fixed frame w/3 fixed shades. Sight vane for telescope (4 telescope attachments & 1 eye piece), fixed wooden handle w/ivory inset w/hole to latch into case. In square wood case, one bail handle on side, plaque on side marked " "BELL" PATTERN/ (no. 1)/ SEXTANT", key missing. Glued inside lid certificate of examination from National Physical Laboratory, Kew Observatory, Richmond, Surrey, dated January, 1901.
