Quintant in fitted case (1985.103.9)), no maker, dated ca. 1880. Brass frame, brass arc with silver scale & vernier, wooden handle. Index mirror has 4 movable sunshades, horizon mirror has 3. 7 additionall parts: 3 telescopes, 2 screw-on sunshades for telescopes; magnifying glass, and adjusting tool. Swing-down magnifier for reading vernier. Belonged to Capt. Timothy Manter Benson (1839-1890), master of the bark MARTHA DAVIS. Measures to 140°.
