Brass sextant in a dovetailed mahogany case w/brass fittings; English manufacture; belonged to Edgar Palmer; used aboard the 185' 3-masted schooner yacht GUINEVERE. Sextant has a silver inlaid scale w/maker's name engraved below it: John Bliss & Co. New York / and at extreme left end of scale: ENGLISH /. Measuring to 126°. ‘Duplex Patent’ engraved on the horizon glass. Handgrip is of ivory, 8 attachments in case. Case: 10 3/4" x 10" x 5 1/8". GUINEVERE, ex-VISITOR II, steel 3-masted auxiliary schooner yacht built 1908 by George Lawley & Son, S. Boston, MA after a design by Swasey, Raymond & Page. GUINEVERE (SP-512) was acquired 6/10/17 by the US Navy & commissioned 7/20/17. She was in patrol & escort service, & ran aground & was wrecked off the French coast 1/26/18, with no loss of life.
