Chevalier/ B. 1785 - D. 1855/ (married 2nd George E. Bissell)/ B 1803 - D. 1873"; typewritten label taped to frame backing "Granddaughter of Eldredge/ Packer, shipbuilder, of/ Mystic, and sister of/ Eldredge Packer, the grand-/ son of the shipbuilder."; typewritten label taped to frame backing [see comments]. Typewritten label taped to frame backing "This cane [2000.29] was a gift of General/ Andrew Jackson (who was nicknamed "Old/ Hickory" by his soldiers during the War/ of 1812 after 'the toughest thing they/ could think of'), later President Jackson,/ to his personal dentist, Dr. Nicholas/ Chavalier./ The inscription around the top reads,/ "Victory of Old Hickory at New Orleans,/ Jany. 8th, 1815."/ The inscription on the top reads,/ "Dr. Chevalier. Dentist. No. 22 Warren Street.".
