Congressional medal, Capt. James Lawrence; reverse shows capture of British ship PEACOCK, Feb. 24, 1812; a few months after this engagement Lawrence was killed in the battle between CHESAPEAKE and SHANNON. Lawrence's dying words, "Don't give up the ship", is the motto in the US Navy.
