Dovetailed sea chest; painted on front in white: "THOS. WAIT FOSTER GUNNER/ ARMD SHIP OLIVER CROMWELL/ SAYBROOK CONN." Metal lock fastened on inside edge of lid. On lid is carved eagle w/outstretched wings and American shield held under chest. 13 stars angle along top and around eagle. Lid grooved near edge. Side cleats carved in lion's heads with rope handles. 2 wooden strips along bottom lengths. 2 runners under chest, front and back.
