Scrimshaw inkstand, wood base, wood and ivory inlay, metal and ivory pegs. Six S-curved ivory legs, two ivory bail handles (one at both short ends), secured to faceted ivory balls by ivory pins. At both short ends, ivory inlaid plaque with etched US shield. On center, 2 oval rings (for ink bottles) side by side, secured to wood by ivory pegs. On center above rings two upright carved ivory plaques forming pen rest, center of both cut out in form of shield, tops serrated to hold pens.
