Oil painting, unidentified artist; portrait of Captain Robert H. Glass (1825-1884), whaling master. Father of Robert Glass was William Glass, a New London whaleman, who settled on the island of Tristan Da Cunha and became its governor; he was one of the signers of the constitution of the island, and his name appears again as a purchaser in a certificate, c. 1817. son of William Glass and his African wife (see Colby "For Oil and Buggy Whips").
