Painting, oil on canvas, unidentified artist, port view of ship AMERICAN EAGLE of Boston (bu. 1795, Haverhill, Mass., as appears by Register No. 12 granted at Newbury Port, 6/16/1795; 2 decks, 3 afts, length 83'7", breadth 25', depth 12'6", measured 225 tons, a square sterned ship with quarter galleries and an eagle head.) US flag from mizzen, pennant from mainmast, flag with eagle from foremast, blue flag with white stars from bowsprit, port view of schooner background right, lighthouse background left. In 1799 Pierre Samuel duPont and family sailed from La Rochelle, France to the New World aboard the AMERICAN EAGLE.
