Whale tooth with bust portrait of young Alexander II Romanov (1818-1881), Czar of Russia (1855-1881), in elaborate military dress, identified as "ALEXANDER"; image has been sourced to pg 48 of the January 18, 1845, issue of 'The Illustrated London News"; the reverse depicts a version of the apotheosis of Abraham Lincoln beneath a smaller vignette of an eagle flanked by horses; the subjects were often linked by their common efforts to free serfs and slaves; an elaborate diamond border encircles base; possibly pin-prick work.
