Tusk with several images carved into it. On one side, A young woman playing a tambourine and dancing with a goat on a leash; based on "La Esmeralda" ["Esmeralda Dancing with Djali"], engraved by Jean-Pierre-Marie Jazet (1788-1871) after a painting by Charles de Steuben (Baron Charles Auguste Guillaume Steuben, 1788-1856), 1841; produced as an illustration for the novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1831) by Victor Hugo (1802-1885). Also image of eagle carrying a banner and 2 American shields, a paddle wheel steamer, and a man in uniform centered by 2 women. On the other side, a classic figure of Alwida, the Female Pirate, from Charles Ellms "The Pirate's Own Book" (Boston, 1837).
