Photograph of Hope Goddard Iselin (second wife of C. Oliver Iselin) on deck at the 1899 America's Cup. According to some, Hope Goddard Iselin was an equal partner with her husband in managing the Cup defenses from 1893 to 1903. Her husband, C. Oliver Iselin, was a banker, friend of J.P. Morgan, and one-time sandbagger sailor. Growing up a sailor herself, Hope Iselin was aboard most of the Iselin-Morgan defenders, apparently with camera in hand. The albums that she created give us the view from the defenders deck.

C. Oliver Iselin was the owner of the cup defender VIGILANT, 1893 and the manager of syndicate for VIGILANT. The C. Oliver Iselin Syndicate owned the cup defender DEFENDER, 1895 and COLUMBIA in 1899. The J.P. Morgan Syndicate owned COLUMBIA, 1901 of which C. Oliver Iselin was a part owner along with J.P. Morgan and Edwin D. Morgan.
