Bronze saluting cannon with trunnion mounting on 4-wheel carriage; bore 2"x35" long, height of carriage 23"; originally came from yacht MAGIC who successfully defended America's Cup winning from SAPPHO and CAMBRIA in 1870; MAGIC ended her sailing days as a Key West sponge fisher.A saluting cannon, like this one of MAGIC's, was an essential part of the equipment of any large yacht of the 1870's and 1880's. It still would be useful in helping racing boats maneuver through fleets of spectators.
