Binnacle and compass from America's Cup Defender VOLUNTEER. Contains 7" standard liquid compass marked in cardinal and intercardinal points, made by Ritchie of Boston, serial # 34839. Binnacle made by John E. Hand & Son, Serial #341. 12" diameter mahogany cylinder trimmed in brass and glass binnacle cover. 1907. Not until the 1930's would the binnacle and compass, the basic navigation instrument of a Cup yacht be augmented. VOLUNTEER's was an easy prize to save, as were many others as you will see.
