scroll (makemono)

Makemono; unusual horizontal scroll found in city of Kanazawa. Depicted in water colors 48 plates (attached) of whales and examples of other marine life. Japanese titles. 1st picture is boat, then follow couple of whaling implements, then sea denizens. Follows Oriental rule: right to left.
