A.C. James's private signal flag; green silk flag, double-pointed. Has white star and almost circular crescent, three Greek letters inside crescent, alpha, delta, phi. Tag on binding has embroidered in script: "S. Ewata,/ 10, Benton lori, Yokohama". [Alpha Delta Phi, a literary fraternity founded in 1832, uses the same symbols (star, crescent, and ADP in the crescent) on its crest. [Arthur Curtiss James, Amherst College class of 1889, was probably a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity .]
