Framed watercolor and pencil on paper. Painted as memorial to Capt. Daniel Carew of Stonington, lost at sea 1837, by his daughter, Sarah E. Carew, aged 11. "Painted by Sarah E. Carew at 11 yrs. of age." written lower right hand corner. Lush green trees, grass, flowers surrounding tomb w/inscription in foreground. Houses on river bank also in foreground. Church framed by trees in background. Inscription on tomb reads: "Inscribed to/ The Memory of Capt Daniel Carew,/ who died at sea Aug 19th 1837. Aged 29 yrs./ sleep on loved one and quietly rest./ The cares of..." Framed watercolor and pencil on paper. Memorial stone in Stonington Borough Cemetery. Watermark in upper right corner "ABRADED/ DRAWING BOARD".
