This post Spanish American War image was taken near Staten Island in New York Bay, at the time of the 29 September 1899 Dewey Day celebration. Some of the OLYMPIA�s 428 crew members and officers are gathered along the deck near the ship�s main battery of 5-inch guns.

The protected cruiser OLYMPIA, was launched by the Union Iron Works at San Francisco in 1892, and became flagship of the Asiatic Squadron in 1895.

The OLYMPIA played a major role in the battle at Manila Bay, which ended with the sinking of all eleven Spanish ships without the loss of any American lives.
