Sea chest dated early half of 19th century. Belonged to Capt. Elihu Spicer of Noank who commanded the brig APALACHICOLA. Chest contained the ship's papers. Capt. Spicer served under Gen. Winfield Scott in transferring Seminole Indians from Florida across the Gulf of Mexico. Wooden chest is covered with calf skin with rounded contour. Chest is 9" at base of one side and 11" at top of side. 10" tall at the center of the rounded top. Decorated with brads and initials E A in brads on the top.
