Glass negative by Capt. George Comer, taken at Repulse Bay, Hudson Bay, on May 3, 1902. Depicts whaleboats, whaling schooner ERA and crew. Identified by Comer as "...the boats being got ready for the Floe Whaling, some musk ox skins can be seen drying; the house over the after part of the vessel is still on, a man is attending drying of some bear skins." In the spring, while the vessel was still frozen in its winter position, the whaleboats were taken to the edge of the land fast ice-the floe edge-to begin hunting whales. Information from original envelope identifies this as Photo #48, #93. The number 21 is etched into the emulsion on lower part of plate.
