Glass negative by Capt. George Comer, taken in the Canadian Arctic, November 4, 1901. Depicts crew members banking a vessel, probably the whaling schooner ERA, with snow. The men are identified as Mr. Jules and Manuel. Snow was used to bank the vessel during the winter. It provided insulation and protection from the wind. Information from original envelope identifies this as Photo # 102, #173.
