Glass negative by Capt. George Comer, taken at Repulse Bay, Hudson Bay, November 23, 1901. Depicts a rear view of an Inuit angakok [shaman] wearing an elaborate parka. The man is identified as Qingailisaq, and his costume was inspired by a vision. Comer described this image as "showing the back of a great angakok, with his peculiar style of coat..." This parka was obtained by Comer for the collections of the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Photo taken inside deck house onboard the whaling schooner ERA. Information from original envelope identifies this as Photo 159. Number 175 is etched into emulsion on lower part of plate.
