Glass negative from the collection made by Capt. George Comer. This photo was taken at Cape Fullerton, Hudson Bay, by Commander A.P. Low of the Canadian steamer NEPTUNE. The photo was taken on April 8, 1904. It depicts Capt. Comer and the crew of the whaling schooner ERA. This carefully posed photo shows the men clean-shaven and with neatly combed hair. Comer is in the center in the back row. An Inuk child is posed in front of him. This may be a boy known as Tom Luce. Seated in the center in the front row is Comer's longtime boatsteerer from the Cape Verde Islands, Brass Lopes. Information from original envelope identifies this as Photo 1.
