Liquor chest, belonged to Captain Oliver Peabody Pearse; hardwood, brass-bound on corners, reinforced with 8 pieces of brass strapping; countersunk brass handles; compartmented, contains 6 large bottles with gilt decoration, 3 with etched designs; center tray holds 4 goblets; under tray are 2 gilt trimmed tumblers and 4 small bottles, one with etched design at base & one with design at top; one has gilt at top & one handsome little bottle has 4 etched designs around 4 sides & beautifully cut round stopper. Capt. Pearse sailed in China trade in 1830's & 1840's.
