Black and white photographic postcard, a full portrait of Lieut. Henry Robertson Bowers (1883-1912), standing against background entirely of snow, dressed in hat, fur gloves, boots and heavy clothing, smiling; bottom border reads "CAPT SCOTT'S SOUTH POLE EXPEDITION / LIEUT BOWERS / BY PERMISSION OF THE FINE ART SOCIETY, 148 NEW BOND ST. W."; Bowers died trying to return to the base came; the film to make the photograph was found a year later by a search team and the bodies were buried where they were found, in the tent.
